Junebug [2005]

Okay… So, about this movie
I can’t really explain it, mainly because I really don’t care to do it, but I enjoyed it immensely.
Because I was having such a good time watching it, half way through it I was shit scared they would ruin it in the end. They didn’t. It’s beautifully written, beautifully filmed and the actors did a phenomenal job.

Okay, okay. I’ll stop with the adverbs!

It moved me and it taught me things about myself. This is a quiet movie that sneaks some human perception into you, if you pay attention.

Save the Date [2012]

Save the Date movie poster

This is a nice, sweet, somewhat sexy, coming of age romance movie with the right amount of sap for a semi-sappy girl like me.
Although this is a romcom, the story rings true and it’s well written.
I have no idea why its score is so low on Rotten. I mean, come on!

It was entertaining, heart warming, and very human. I liked it a lot.

Snowy Berlin

Warschauer Straße

Yesterday I woke up in a white city. After bundling myself into as many layers as I could—come on, don’t laugh, I’m from the south of Europe, we think 60ºF (15ºC) is cold—I left the house to snap some photos.
It wasn’t as cold as I thought. The sun was shinning and the temperature was very mild. I had to take off my gloves and ear muffs or I would be too hot to walk around outside.
Problem was I forgot my sunglasses and OMG it was bright. Too bright! So I went down to the bahn station to shoot a few quick photos before my eyes burst into flames. These are it.

True Detective

True Detective Poster

I’ve mentioned this show here before but only now were we able to finish watching the whole first season.
It’s a crime drama series with a clear nod to Lovecraft’s Cthulhu myths and it explores certain moments in the lives of two detectives who are investigating the horrific murders of several young women.

It’s intimate, slow paced, intricate, and it has a beauty to it that convinces you that the people involved in it truly loved what they were doing.

Now I want to watch it again…

Disco Bike Birthday Party

Disco Bike 11

On Saturday we attended Takuya’s birthday party. He lit up his bike–and himself–and we all rode from Fshain to Xberg following his Disco Bike. It was a lot of fun, despite de cold.

Scott and Sílvia, my brother-in-law and sister, were in town for one last evening so it was also a sort of a see you soon party for us.

Happy Birthday dude!

All photos here.

Freaks and Geeks [TV Series 1999]

Freaks and Geeks We’ve been re-watching this amazing series in the last few weeks.
Funny how, even though it’s set in 1980 in some small town in the US, it’s really close to my experience as a teen in high school in Portugal around 1995.
It’s brilliantly written, and the actors do a great job in bringing the characters to life.
The series was canceled after only 12 of the original 18 episodes were aired. We still have one more episode to go and I’m already sad to know they will be gone soon. Maybe in 15 years I can watch it again and love it all over again.

If you don’t know the series, watch the (annoying) trailer:
